The Buddha status are shows fine craftsmanship of and glory of arts. Dambulla is a good location to rest while you travel Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura or Jafna. We reached there on the first day of our trip (18th Sep 2010) and after coming back from the temple we had our lunch at the common hall provided for travelers to rest. The toilet facilities and water is available there. The temple is situated at the top of the huge rock. The temple has utilized a huge area of natural rock cave. The rocks inside the caves are painted nicely. (See the above picture)
Climbing the rock is fun. There are two ways to climb one way is to walk and the other one is to drive a vehicle. But usually the visitors will have to walk because driving up needs special permission. The driving root is less steep. Although the root is little longer, one can reach to the top with less effort using that root. There are lot of monkeys running hear and there. They walked with us and sometimes they were looking for some food. They might sometimes jump and drag one or two flowers from people because they enjoy eating the center of lotus flowers. .
