AnuradhapuraWhen we raeched to Anuradhapura it was arround 3.00 PM. Because of that we did not have enough time to visit all Atamasthana (Meaning - Eight places in Sinhala language). We managed to visit Sri Maha Bodiya which is worshiped and respected by every Buddhist. This is the the right side branch of the same Bo-Tree which was given shade to Buddha to enlighten Buddha-hood.
This was brought to Sri Lanka by Sangamiththa Theraniya around 2000 BC and the boat reached to Sambuthurei of Jafna Peninsula. Sambuthurei is a close destination and the migrants from India could easily sail there boats in that era to visit Sri Lanka. This place is called as the "Dambakola Patuna" (Dambadiva or Jambudweepaya is India and Kola means Leaf in Sinhala "). We went to see Dambakolapatuna at the third day of our trip and you can see the pictures of the location if you go through the Day -3 menu. There is a connection road specially built for pedestrians walking from Sri Maha Bodiya to Ruwanwelisaya. I enjoyed the cool breeze and natural surrounding there while walking. There were monkeys and parrots in the trees. On the way we saw a group of Buddhists carrying "Pooja Bhanda" (Goods that Buddhist monks need) in there hands and we worshiped them with a grate respect. We reached to Ruwanwelisaya and worshiped. Ruwanwelisaya is a Bubulakara (Like a Bubble) Dagaba. It is a huge dagaba surrounded by Ath Pawura ( Pawura means Wall and Ath means Elephants in Sinhala) Sri Maha Bodiya - Anuradhapura |
